This site is built with v3 of 11ty, and Nunjucks templates, and from Markdown files using a small Python script converting each post on brennan.day into plain-text.
Post bodies are rendered with markdown-it with custom rules: heading levels get a hidden # marker, images become [image: alt text] and link to the image on brennan.day, and Markdown syntax is rendered literally.
The site is ASCII. Post bodies keep non-ASCII letters (accents, other scripts, emoji, etc.).
Converting the posts
The conversion script keeps only title, date, tags, summary, and collection from each post's YAML front matter. Slugs are computed from the post title with @sindresorhus/slugify,
The script also rewrites raw HTML within posts, eg. <figure><img></figure> blocks become plain Markdown images, <iframe> embeds become [embedded video] links, etc.
Word counts are computed with elements not counted like fenced code blocks, link targets, and leftover HTML tags to make the count accurate.
The Atom feed renders each post through markdown-it differently, with the literal Markdown syntax disabled so it isn't displayed in feed readers.
There is one inlined stylesheet in the <head> of each page that's <1.5 KB. There is no JavaScript or images anywhere on this site. There are no external requests. No fonts, no analytics, no third-party anything.
The typeface is monospace. It is the fixed-width font your browser, terminal, or screen reader provides.
The original posts can be viewed on brennan.day. Each post on this subdomain links to the canonical URL, and the Atom feed has the 50 most recent posts to ensure its size is <5MB.
